The gear limit switch GGS serves as a hoist limiter in ABUS wire rope hoists at the highest and lowest hook position. It is mechanically coupled directly with the cable drum and electrically connected to the crane control.

─     The gear limit switch has three switching points which are normally used as backup limiter, top hoist limiter and bottom hoist limiter.

─     The backup limiter and the top hoist limiter are factory preset and sealed.

─     If the top hoist limiter fails, the backup limiter ensures a safe switching off of the hoist. The backup limiter also ensures a safe switching off if a rotary field is reversed.

─     The gear limit switch without absolute rotary encoder is intended for operation on a contactor-controlled crane with ABUS electrics 3. The gear limit switch with absolute rotary encoder is intended for operation on a crane with ABUControl.

─     The gear limit switch is not intended for operation on a crane with ABUS electrics 3 with ABULiner frequency converter.
